Michael J. Marchese, M.D.
Dr. Marchese is a board certified psychiatrist with more than twenty years of experience.
He received his M.D. from Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons
in New York City and completed an internship in Internal Medicine and a residency
in Psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. He is
licensed to practice medicine in Florida and North Carolina.
Dr. Marchese was Medical Director for inpatient psychiatry at Shands Teaching Hospital
and was on the faculty of the School of Medicine at the University of Florida for
many years. While there, he started the Marital Therapy Clinic. Dr. Marchese has
also worked in community mental health at the Veterans Administration Medical Center
where he was Service Chief and in a hospital owned group practice. He has been in
private practice in Gainesville since 2002 and relocated his office to the Haile
Plantation Village Center in May 2005.
Dr. Marchese treats adults who present with depression, anxiety, adult ADHD, other
types of mood disorders and has a special interest in couples therapy. He
does not treat patients whose primary problem is substance abuse.
Dr. Marchese sees patients by appointment only between the hours of 8:00 AM and
6:00 PM Monday through Thursday and between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM on Friday. Dr. Marchese participates as a provider with Blue Cross/ Blue Shield PPO, Aetna, Tricare and other insurance
plans. At the present time, Dr. Marchese is not accepting new Medicare patients. He is not a Medicaid provider. Missed appointments are charged the
full fee unless cancelled with at least 24 hour notice.
Dr. Marchese is available for after hour telephone consultation for emergencies
only. He does not have admitting privileges and therefore cannot directly admit
nor see patients in hospital. Dr. Marchese is part of a group of psychiatrists in
Gainesville who share on-call. When Dr. Marchese is not on call, another psychiatrist
will be available.
